The ham and cheese inn
About
The Ham and Cheese is a charming country pub and inn located in the historic village of Scagglethorpe, near Malton. Built in 1907, the building preserves the authentic 19th‑century character of the original 1800s farm shop while offering modern comforts. Guests are welcomed by a relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, and a warm, traditional setting that makes it a favourite for locals and visitors alike. The inn boasts a range of dining options – a lively bar, a cosy restaurant, and a breakfast lounge – all serving freshly sourced, locally produced food throughout the day, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten‑free menus. Dogs are welcome on the premises (by pre‑booking) and there are a range of family‑friendly facilities such as a children's menu, highchairs and a dedicated space for children and pets. Accommodation consists of eight basic rooms spread across two properties on site. Each room has a small ensuite bathroom and a hot‑drink making facility. A minimum two‑night stay is required for weekends and the adults‑only ‘The Retreat’ cottage is available for romantic get‑aways, offering log burners, a private garden with BBQ and a hot‑tub. Whether you’re after hearty British breakfasts, a lively evening pint or a comfortable night’s sleep in the heart of North Yorkshire, The Ham and Cheese offers a complete country‑pub experience that has delighted guests for over a century.
