Castle Menzies
About
Castle Menzies is a stunning 16th‑century Z‑plan castle perched just west of the village of Weem in the picturesque Scottish Highlands. Rescued from ruin in 1957, it has been meticulously restored by the Menzies Clan Society and the Castle Menzies SCIO, giving visitors a rare, authentic glimpse into Scotland’s clan heritage and architectural evolution. The original stonework and largely un‑furnished interior let you experience how the Chiefs of Clan Menzies would have lived, while the beautifully preserved Dewar Room—once the society’s library—offers a quiet, still‑alive corridor through history. The walled garden and the nearby Old Kirk of Weem complete the setting, providing a tranquil backdrop to the castle’s storied past. Visitors are encouraged to wander freely through most of the castle without a guide, making the experience both intimate and self‑directed. Events such as weddings and clan gatherings are also hosted here, turning the castle into a vibrant living centre of heritage and community life.
