Hill of The O’Neill & Ranfurly House is the perfect starting point for an exploration of the Dungannon and Tyrone area. Located in the former Belfast Bank, a beautiful mid-Victorian centrepiece at the heart of Dungannon town which provides the gateway to the medieval capital of Ulster, Hill of The O’Neill a site used by rulers, noblemen and armies as a stronghold to dominate the area, a place from which they could influence all of Ulster. At least two castles are thought to have been built on the site, as well as a grand manor house and a fortified town. Ranfurly House has a multi-media exhibition narrating the Hill’s importance in Irish and European history, its links to the O’Neill’s and the subsequent Flight of the Earls and Plantation of Ulster. Ranfurly House has a fully staffed Tourist Information Centre.
