About

Nestled between the ancient South‑western edge of Chichester Cathedral and the historic city walls, the Bishop’s Palace Gardens offer a tranquil oasis in the city centre. Dating back to the late 12th century, the gardens have recently been refurbished with water features, new seating, a graceful pergola walk and a wildlife‑friendly planting scheme. Visitor admission is by donation, with a recommended contribution of £7 per person, allowing anyone to enjoy the space for free. The gardens open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Sundays from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm. A walk through the park presents a beautiful view of the cathedral’s spire, a glimpse of the surrounding city walls and a peaceful setting ideal for picnics, casual strolls or family outings. The carefully restored heritage landscape invites visitors to relax, explore nature and learn about Chichester’s historic quarter in a setting of natural beauty and cultural significance.
