Alfred Denny Museum
About
The Alfred Denny Museum is a zoological teaching museum, established at the University of Sheffield in 1905. We are open on the first Saturday of every month for tours - check out our webpage for more details! The museum contains animals from every major group in the form of skeletons, taxidermy, spirit jars, pinned insects, fossils, casts and models. It is laid out to show the diversity of animal life with groups organised into cabinets featuring interesting teaching material such as Life History Jars and Double Specimens. In addition to our main museum on C Floor we have a number of displays dedicated to unique collections such as the Sorby Slides: a series of preserved UK marine animals made by Henry Clifton Sorby. Our team is working hard behind the scenes to maintain our collections, build new displays and digitise our specimens as part of our long-term project to improve public engagement and remote access to information about our items.
