Tapton Lock Visitor Centre on the Chesterfield Canal offers visitors a friendly welcome, advice on exploring the canal and local countryside and tasty coffee, homemade cakes and snacks. Come in and have a look, we'll be happy to tell you about the canal and plans for complete restoration. We have a selection of leaflets and maps to help you explore and if you are not so mobile, a 'Tramper' mobility scooter for hire (ID and deposit required). We are just 1 mile from the centre of Chesterfield, but tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding roads. You can enjoy a quiet walk, watching wildlife or a summer boat trip.
