About
Yarmouth Castle, perched on the Isle of Wight’s coastline, offers a captivating blend of maritime history and seaside charm. Originally built to guard the strategic Yarmouth harbour, the square blockhouse features the country’s first ‘arrowhead’ bastion and was garrisoned until 1885. Inside visitors can roam atmospheric recreations of 16th‑century rooms, explore the exhibition on the infamous wrecks of ‘Yarmouth Roads’, and soak up panoramic views of the Solent from the castle’s terrace – one of the island’s finest picnic spots. The site is currently closed until March 2026, but is open for future visits with free entry for up to six children under a member and a $42.00 membership granting unlimited access to over 400 historic sites.
