Barge Gladys

Barge gladys is the headquarters for The Benfleet Motorboat and yacht club. Gladys is a converted grain barge built around 1865. She was working up until the late 1950s. Gladys was open as a club in 1979. When the licensing laws changed in 2003 she was open to the public.She is still run as a members club as well public. She has been owned by the same family since 1978. Barge gladys is not a restaurant but bar snacks ( rolls, pies and toasted sandwiches and hot dogs ) available also there are BBQs held in the summer months on a sunday and bank holiday monday( when the weather is nice ). There are 2 real ales, 4 lagers 1 keg bitter 1 cider and cold Guinness available as well as bottle beers, bottle cider, wine and a non alcaholic range. There are also soft drinks for the children as well as crisps and peanuts. All children are welcome ( but please note not in the bar area or in the area upstairs) there is a children seating area as well as our garden. Dogs are very welcome. We also sell our special dog sticks for the dogs.
