About
The Camel Trail is a 29.5‑kilometre (18.3‑mile) permissive cycleway that follows the former railway line from Padstow to Wenford Bridge, passing through Wadebridge and Bodmin. Built on the gentle gradients of the old Cornwall rail tracks, it offers an easy‑going route for walkers, runners, cyclists and horse riders alike, with miles of flat terrain, scenic river views and a variety of bike‑hire services along the way. The trail is part of the National Cycle Network (Routes 32 and 3) and runs through Cornwall’s outstanding natural beauty, including the Camel Estuary and the historic Camel Quarry spoil heaps. With its well‑maintained path, clear signage and picturesque scenery, it attracts around 400,000 visitors annually and serves as a favourite spot for families, cyclists, dog walkers and nature enthusiasts. Accessible all year round, the Camel Trail’s mild UK climate makes late spring to early autumn – May to September – the optimal season for enjoying the crisp, sunny weather and fewer crowds, though the track remains open and enjoyable in any season.
