Buxton Museum and Art Gallery
About
Wonders of the Peak is our main, permanent exhibition at Buxton Museum & Art Gallery - with over 1,200 objects on display, covering 360 million years of history. Geology: explore a time when sharks swam across the Peak District and when giant dragonflies rules the sky! Ice Age Animals: See the massive power of the cave lion's hind leg and the deadly teeth of the scimitar-toothed cats. Archaeology: From pre-historic tools, to Roman jewellery, from Saxon silver to medieval coins - see what generations of the Peak District people have left behind. Art: Admire the beauty of Blue John and visit the largest collection of Ashford Black Marble on public display, and a changing display of art works in both our art galleries. The Boyd Dawkins Study: Home to a mermaid and more - an Edwardian study, commemoration the many people who have given objects to the museum, particularly two scientists, Sir William Boyd Dawkins and Dr J Wilfrid Jackson.
