Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker
About
Located at Hack Green, Cheshire, the Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker is a preserved Cold‑War relic that once served as one of the UK’s Regional Government Headquarters. Opened to the public in 1998, the 35,000‑sq‑ft underground complex now functions as a museum that immerses visitors in the tense atmosphere of nuclear preparedness. Inside, guests can explore a wide range of military and Cold‑War artefacts, including a section of the nose of an F‑4 Phantom jet, original Ballistic Missile Early Warning System equipment, and de‑commissioned nuclear weapons. Interactive exhibits let visitors experience what life would have been like in the event of a nuclear attack, with a simulator that recreates the bunker’s conditions and a game‑style “Cold War Spy Mice” hunt aimed at younger visitors. Although it has been de‑classified and repurposed, the bunker still bears the same formidable concrete walls and ventilation systems that were designed to protect government command and control facilities during the height of the Cold War. The site remains open to the public most of the year, offering a distinctive step back into a pivotal era of history.
