Hanley Park

Hanley Park and the adjacent Cauldon Grounds are open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The park is staffed most days from morning until late afternoon, and we welcomed around 922,000 visitors during 2014. Cauldon Grounds first opened in 1894, and were followed by the larger Hanley Park in 1897. Both were designed by the up-and-coming landscape architect Thomas Mawson, helping to cement his international reputation. Hanley Park's listed status has recently been upgraded to II* in recognition of its importance. The two parks continue to be the focus of many exciting developments. The park has now been awarded £4.5m funding for a once-in-a-lifetime restoration project. The most visible work is set to take place from spring 2016. This is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund through their Parks for People Programme, and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Things to see and do in the park - Art features, including 'Love Ties' sculpture by Emily Campbell - Grade II* listed historic landscape, including bandstand, terrace garden, pavilion, lake, Doulton fountain (in Cauldon Grounds) and views across the park towards Stoke Minster. - Crown green bowling green - Fishing (the park is classed as 'community water,' and all are welcome to fish responsibly with a valid Environment Agency rod licence - Three exciting play areas: toddler, sensory, and adventure (including aerial slide) - Picnic area - Free-of-charge sports zone including: all-weather floodlit sports court, cricket wicket and nets, tennis courts, basketball hoops and a multi-use sports court. - Toilets (open during staffed hours).
