The Swan Theatre, perched on the riverside of Stratford‑upon‑Avon, is a proud member of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s portfolio. Built in 1986 on the Victorian‑Gothic site that once housed the original Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, it offers a deep thrust stage and an intimate galleried auditorium that comfortably seats around 450 patrons. After a major refurbishment completed in early 2023, the Swan received sweeping upgrades, including new carpeting, seat upholstery, a state‑of‑the‑art induction hearing loop, and improved sound and lighting rigs. The project also introduced a rooftop restaurant with panoramic views of the River Avon, a riverside café, and a spacious public terrace, all connected to the theatre by a new colonnade. Accessibility has been enhanced across the complex, making both the Swan and the adjacent Royal Shakespeare Theatre fully navigable for visitors of all abilities. Today, the Swan showcases a rotating programme of Shakespearean contemporaries, European classics, and occasional modern works.
