Corbridge Roman Town
About
Corbridge Roman Town is a living time‑capsule that offers visitors a vivid glimpse into life in the Roman Empire. The site sits on the historic Stanegate road and features the original Roman main street, fully preserved in its narrow layout with a mix of old stone walls, timber posts and Roman‑style pavement. At the heart of the town lies the Museum, home to an internationally renowned collection of Roman artefacts, including the celebrated Corbridge Hoard—an extraordinary cache of finely crafted Roman weapons, armour, silverware and everyday items that date back to the early 2nd century AD. Visitors can explore these objects along with the famous Corbridge Lion, a stone sculpture carved from a massive red sandstone block. The site also offers guided walks along the High Street, keeper‑led demonstrations, a children's discovery trail, and seasonal events that bring the ancient town’s spirit alive. Open throughout the year from 10:00 to 16:00 on weekends, Corbridge Roman Town attracts families, history lovers, school teams and tourists alike, all eager to step back into a Roman frontier town that once supplied the garrisons of Hadrian’s Wall.
