About
Bridgnorth Cliff Railway, also known as the Castle Hill Railway, is a historic funicular that has connected the high town to the low town since July 1892. The 259‑metre line climbs a near‑vertical rise of 60 metres, making it the steepest and one of the shortest inland railways in the UK. A single car holds 18 passengers, and the journey offers sweeping views of Bridgnorth’s iconic Tudor market square, the River Severn and the old castle ruins. The railway remains a popular family attraction and a showcase of 19th‑century engineering, with the lower station adjacent to the river and the upper car stop overlooking Bridgnorth Castle Hill. Visitors can purchase a return ticket for £2.00, with discounted rates for groups of 15 or more.
