About
Situated in a remote and magical location near Llangollen, Valle Crucis was founded in 1201 by Prince Madog ap Gruffydd and the ‘white monks’ of the Cistercian order. Valle Crucis began in austerity but was later celebrated by poets for its lavish hospitality – meals served in silver vessels and ale ‘flowing like a river’. Seven centuries later and the abbey is one of the best preserved in Wales. The displayed opening times are our general pattern. Please check the Cadw website for unexpected closures, opening times, events, and site facilities.
