About

The UK's only surviving Victorian Twineworks. An education, tourism and community site which welcomes visitors. We celebrate the former hugely important Somerset and Dorset twine, rope and sailcloth industries which were built on locally grown flax and hemp. We have a 100m 'twinewalk' on 2 levels, with machinery that made twine, working, and driven by a 1927 oil engine. We have a visitor centre (funded by the Lottery Heritage) with the usual facilities and displays. We make no fixed charges but the project is run and managed by local volunteers and we are entirely dependent on donations from visitors. We are open at present on the 4th Saturday of every month. Other visits by appointment - groups very welcome.
