About
The former home of Saint Margaret Clitherow (known as “the pearl of York”), an ordinary butcher's wife who was martyred in 1586 for her Catholic faith. Today it is a shrine in her memory. Catholic Mass is offered in this chapel every Saturday morning at 10am, followed by devotions to the martyrs of York. There are churches and chapels all over the world, dedicated to her. Pilgrims and tourists travel a great distance in order to honour her and pray for her intercession.
