Kraftwerk Bad Gastein
About
Open again up 22.05.2021 The Bad Gastein power plant is located at the foot of this waterfall. It was planned by Otto Wagner's student Leopold Führer and built in 1914 to cope with the spa's growing electricity consumption. It was only in 1996 that the power station went out of operation and it has been owned by the municipality ever since. Since 2004 it has been listed as a historical monument. The interior is therefore still a testimony to the past and a small museum: the control fittings line the wall and the power plant's three Francis turbines still sit in place, right in the middle of the café's lounge area. Incidentally, the terrace and café are heated with thermal water. At the power plant, you kill three feel-good birds with one stone: you drink or eat something leisurely, watch the water plunge over meters into the depths and foam into the pool, and fill your lungs with fresh, negatively ionized air. On the menu you will find seasonally changing dishes.
