The Central Sofia Market Hall, located at 25 Maria Luisa Boulevard in downtown Sofia, is one of the city’s most vibrant shopping destinations. Covering an area of 3,200 m², the hall has been welcoming locals and visitors since its original opening in 1911 and was again renovated and reopened for Easter in 2000 after a comprehensive modernization project. Designed by architect Naum Torbov, the building is a striking example of Neo‑Renaissance architecture blended with Neo‑Byzantine and Neo‑Baroque elements. A prominent three‑dial clock tower crowns the façade, while a detailed relief of Sofia’s coat of arms, sculpted by Haralampi Tachev, adorns the main entrance. Inside, the market now hosts a supermarket and several small shops where shoppers can explore a range of local produce and artisanal goods. A visit to the Market Hall offers a unique combination of historical charm and everyday commerce, making it a favorite stop for both history enthusiasts and casual shoppers seeking an authentic Bulgarian market experience.
