Gotberg
About
The Gotberg winery lies near Hustopec in the village of Popice, whose winemaking tradition reaches back to the 13th century. The winery was established in 2003, and concentrated on planting new vineyards in its early years. Gotberg placed its first wines on the market in 2010. It currently farms 56 hectares of its own vineyards at Panensky kopec, Svidrunk, Sonberk, Stara hora and a new one at Unedy. Gotberg is a participant in the cross-border Czech-Austrian project ECOWIN - Enhancing functional biodiversity of vineyards by converting towards sustainable management. Grapes grows on the local clay-loess soils rich in calcium, and mature on curved terraces lush with licorice, rose hip bushes, wild cherry and peach-almond hybrid trees. Winery it focuses on traditional and new varieties, which belong to and thrive in this region. When processing grapes, Gotberg respects European standards and applies the most modern technologies, whether producing wines in stainless steel tanks or in traditional oak kegs. Gotberg's wines have won awards at numerous international and Czech wine competitions. Gotberg also scored on its home turf in the prestigious competition Salon vin. The winery is headquartered in a new building that is an example of modern winery architecture, and that even won the award "Best Industrial Structure of the South Moravian Region for 2009". From the open terrace of the winery, there is a lovely view of the region's dominant feature, Palava hill, and Musov lakes. An underground tasting room hosts organized wine-tastings, nicknamed the Diamond for its shape. Gotberg works with selected restaurants where a special menu is combined with its wines. However, we recommend you to enjoy such an atmosphere right here in Gotberg, a unique experience, each time, all year long.
