PLATO offers space to everyone who wants to understand the present-day world in a broader context. In PLATO, we reflect on the world’s complexity and richness through art, in an international context and at the highest possible level. We operate in the city centre in a heritage-listed municipal slaughterhouse from the late 19th century. Its transformation has been shortlisted as one of the five finalists for the European Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2024. The exhibition spaces in a total cover an area of 1,370 m². The architectural design allows six walls to be rotated, opening up the building from all sides. The gallery is surrounded by the Garden of Present, a green public space covering an area of 9,000 m2. The garden is permacultural, meaning ecological, ethical and meaningfully arranged for both humans and animals. Besides exhibitions, you can come and enjoy programmes for families and a wide range of educational activities.
