Zoo Ostrava
About
Zoo Ostrava is the second‑largest zoological park in the Czech Republic, situated on a sprawling 100‑hectare estate in the city of Ostrava. The zoo boasts nearly 4,000 animals—ranging from the charismatic African lions to the gentle European bison—swarm around meticulously designed exhibits that showcase the diversity of life from every continent. In addition to the animal collections, visitors are treated to a world‑class botanical garden, featuring three themed trails that cover six kilometres. Highlights include the Rhododendron Park, the House of Evolution, and the Birds Aviaries—each offering interactive displays and close encounters with wildlife. The park also offers educational programs for schools, a family playground, a petting zoo, and the Saola restaurant, which serves local cuisine. Open year‑round, the Zoo Ostrava offers flexible visiting hours with a peak season from May to September that sees unparalleled visitor activity, while the winter months provide a quieter, more intimate experience in a serene, snow‑dusted setting.
