Fregatten Jylland
About
The wooden frigate ‘Jylland’ is a living museum that lets visitors step onto one of the world’s longest and most historically significant wooden warships. Built in 1857‑1860, the ship served as a royal vessel, a warship, and even a platform for teaching maritime skills. Today the frigate is docked in the harbor of Ebeltoft, where Visitors can explore its many decks, watch ship‑wrights at work, and immerse themselves in the stories of sailors, battles, and royal voyages. Guided introductions—ranging from the ship’s construction to its role in the Battle of Helgoland—are offered daily, and each day the staff delivers a family‑friendly “skibsdrengens liv ombord” intro that brings history to life for children and adults alike. Audio guides (“Fregatten fortæller” and “Rejsen”) are free to download and provide an engaging way to explore the ship’s interior and history. Daily special activities such as the “Klatring i masten,” a gentle rope‑climbing adventure for ages 10 and above, and small‑group historic tours with a 45‑minute itinerary are also available, some of which can be booked online or at the museum shop.
