About

Museum Silkeborgs museum Hovedgården is housed in and takes its name from Silkeborg Hovedgård from 1767. It is the city's oldest building, partly built from materials from Silkeborg Castle. The exhibitions at Hovedgården tell about aspects of life from ancient times to the present. The museum exhibits the world-famous bug body Tollund man and Elling woman and tells the story of ancient times. Within historical time, the exhibitions offer themes around Silkeborg Castle, antique glass and glass production in the Silkeborg region in the Renaissance, "Sorring pottery", the rise and development of the city of Silkeborg in the mid-1800s, with e.g. an empire living room. The museum also hosts the Arbejdermuseet (workers' museum) on Chr. 8 Vej 52, which contains a workers' residence and exhibition about workers' life in Silkeborg in the early 1900s.
