About

The Kuusamo Local History Museum, located near the center of Kuusamo on the shores of lake Torankijärvi, tells about the traditional life of people who have been living in the harsh conditions of North Eastern Finland. Their livelihood came from a mixture of agriculture, pastoral farming, reindeer herding, hunting and fishing. The 16 buildings located in the museum’s area include the houses Pulkkanen and Rävä, a cowshed and a stable. Other buildings, which used to be part of the old homesteads, are also exhibited in the area, as well as a postwar temporary housing. The houses were donated to the museum by people living in the different parts of Kuusamo. The exhibition changes every year. The museum is open in summer and by arrangement. Museum cards are accepted at the museum.
