The ancient agglomeration of Les Bouchauds is situated on the Via Agrippa (a Roman road constructed by the Roman general Agrippa, connecting Saintes and the capital of Gaul, Lyon) in the Roman province of Aquitaine.The site of Les Bouchauds comprises several facilities: the theatre, built on the natural slope of the hill is one of the largest in ancient Aquitaine. It would mainly have been destined for the celebration of the imperial cult. And the sanctuary situated on top of the hill with two adjacent sacred spaces, each containing two temples.
