About

Bibracte is a remarkable Gallic oppidum perched on the summit of Mount Beuvray in the Burgundian Morvan. Once the capital of the Aedui tribe, its double‑walled fortification – the iconic Murus Gallicus – covered an area of 135 hectares and the site now spans 200 hectares of archaeological park. The modern museum, open from March through November, offers interactive reconstructions, audiovisual displays and a collection of Celtic and Gallo‑Roman artefacts, while the surrounding forest provides hiking trails and quiet spots for contemplation. Visitors can explore the site at their leisure, but guided tours – available in several languages – offer deeper insight into daily life, military strategy and the spring festivals that once marked the calendar. Tickets to the museum start at €10 for adults and €7 for reduced‑price visitors, with free entry for children under 12. Guided visits begin at €15 and also enjoy free admission for children. The “Gallian Day” package – a combination of museum entry, site tour and a traditional Gaulish lunch at the on‑site restaurant – costs €30 for adults and is a must‑try for families and history enthusiasts. Because the tours are popular, a reservation is recommended and often required via phone (+33 3 85 86 52 40). The museum is closed from 12 December 2025 until 14 March 2026, after which it reopens for the new season. The archaeological site itself remains open year‑round, although hours change seasonally.
