About

Fonds Hélène & Édouard Leclerc pour la Culture (FHEL) is a private endowment founded in 2011 by the Leclerc family, dedicated to the promotion of contemporary art. Located in the historic Roman‑esque Capuchin convent of Landerneau in the Finistère department, the museum’s mission is to democratise access to modern creation by presenting exhibitions that feature major figures of 20th‑ and 21st‑century art. The centre has become a cultural landmark in Brittany, attracting more than a million visitors since its inauguration on 23 June 2012. The building, originally a 17th‑century Capuchin monastery, was later converted into the first Leclerc hyper‑market before its closure in 1986. Its medieval conventual chapel and cloisteral courtyard have been restored to house a multi‑level exhibition space, while the former hyper‑market structure now hosts temporary galleries. The architecture blends historic stonework with modern design, providing an atmospheric setting for contemporary artworks. FHEL hosts two major exhibitions each year, showcasing the work of internationally renowned artists such as Gérard Fromanger, Yann Kersalé, Joan Miró, Alberto Giacometti, Chagall, Picasso, and Henri Cartier‑Bresson. The museum’s programmes also include workshops, publications, and collaborations with the Leclerc foundation’s own publishing house, making it a vibrant hub for both art aficionados and the wider public.
