La Darse
About
La Darse is a historic marina and waterfront promenade that forms the northern end of Villefranche‑sur‑Mer’s charming Old Town. The original “darse” dates back to the 17th century when it was built for the galleys of Duke Charles de Savoy; today it has evolved into a well‑maintained marina that accommodates yachts and small sailing vessels, while still preserving its maritime character. The cobbled harbor front offers picturesque views of the Mediterranean and of the adjacent promenade, lined with charming stone façades, cafés, and boutiques. Visitors can stroll the waterfront to watch yachts bob in the harbor, browse artisan stalls, or sample fresh seafood in one of the many restaurants overlooking the water. The area is freely accessible to the public, making it a popular spot for families, history lovers, and leisure travelers seeking a relaxed Mediterranean experience.
