Abbatiale Saint-Ouen
About
Saint‑Ouen Abbey (Abbaye Saint‑Ouen) is one of the finest examples of late‑Gothic architecture in Normandy. Founded in the 8th century, the church rose over two centuries to reach its current dimensions: a 137‑metre nave and 33‑metre vaulted ceilings, crowned by a striking lantern‑style tower. Inside visitors are treated to the majestic Cavaillé‑Coll pipe organ—one of only the few surviving instruments of the 19th‑century master—and a collection of 80 stained‑glass windows that bathe the space in luminous, jewel‑tinted light. Recent restoration works, completed in 2024, have refreshed the stonework and interiors while preserving the historic character, making Saint‑Ouen a must‑visit destination for lovers of architecture, music, and history.
