Things to do/about, the region /Aquitaine. This Region ie: Vallee de Vezere/Dordogne - "Perigord Noir"........has the highest concentrations of Frances' most beautiful villages". " Les Rosiers" rentals/chambre d'hote is in the hamlet of Les Bories, a small working walnut farm hamlet. 2mins walk to the Vezere river. Cross the road to my neighbours farm/ Msr Braserie to buy walnut oil/l'huille de noix The charming market town of Montignac sur Vezere and the famous Lascaux caves /New Lascaux IV centre are just a 5 minute drive to the north, and the pre-historic troglodyte fortress of La Roque Saint-Christophe a ten minute drive to the South. Next door to that is the amazing Maison de forte Reignac, open to visitors all year round. Chateau de Losse, across the river from here, open May -sept. You will be spoilt for choice for things to do and places to visit. The medieval towns of Sarlat; Les Eyzies, home to the National Museum of Pre-History; and several of the Plus Beaux Villages de France including St Leon sur Vezere, Beynac, Castelnaud, and Domme, are within a twenty mile radius of the house. Other wonderful attractions in the immediate area include pre-historic parks and caves; chateaux and gardens; and magnificent castles dating back to the Hundred Years War. The many and varied activities on the doorstep include canoeing, horse-riding, walking, cycling and paragliding. There are also many attractions such as an aquarium, a treetop adventure park and a heritage theme park. To name them all would need a book - the list is endless....! Those looking to experience the gastronomic delights of the region will find a nearby market in Montignac (4k drive) Wednesday and Saturday mornings. There is also a larger famous market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings in Sarlat, 25 mins drive. There are many opportunities to sample the fine foods and wine that this area is famous for...June to end of August there are the Marche Gourmands /Night markets food music, in local villages. Food, wine dancing. Personal favourites are Valojoulx on a Friday night, 2k away, start around 6:30pm. Saint Leon sur Vezere, Thursday nights (dancing here) and Saint Amand du Coly Tuesday nights. Also the fabulous annual music festival in Montignac June 21st. Also in July. Dining: The little village of Thonac with its well stocked shop, restaurant and bar, is less than a mile away. Favourite restaurants are as follows , lunch or dinner, Le 4 excellent for fine dining, just outside of Montignac. Or for typical- family style Perigordine fare try the local auberge's Auberge's Le Bareil (6 course long lunch wine uncld) is the next village left after le Chappelle Aubareil 10 mins drive. Auberge du Peyrol/chez Jenine, Reservations needed for both in Sergeac 5 mins drive. Auberge de Poste or Du Pont in Saint Leon sur Vezere 10 mins drive. Auberge Archambeau in Thonac 5 mins drive. Lou Bombareau or chez Fany, both restaurants also very good...close to the church on Rue de Juillet in Montignac.
