About
The Spiritan Museum of African Arts is housed within the Spiritan community site of St. Joseph of Allex, in the Drôme Valley. The Spiritan collections are an exceptional testimony of life, traditions, art and beliefs of the people of Central Africa in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Most of these objects, miraculously preserved, remained up to now unseen by the general public or specialists. The museum, adapted to modern standards of conservation and reception, was designed by the agencies NeM architectes and Gernay architectes, in partnership with Nicolas Rolland, scientific advisor. It is above all a place of dialogue, open to the contemporary world and its questions, with a view to mutual enrichment.
