About

Schauplatz Eisenbahn is Europe's largest railway museum and is one of the most important museums of its kind in Germany. It is located in the former railway depot from the steam locomotive era. Countless historic buildings, technical systems and vehicles give it its unique, authentic atmosphere. Various exhibitions vividly convey the history of the railway in the 20th century. Highlights include the technical systems of the former marshalling yard and its rope-system, two round houses with 20-meter turntables and formerly 26 locomotive stalls each, as well as coaling and sanding systems, water cranes, a historic workshop and much more. The impressive vehicle inventory includes steam, diesel and electric locomotives of various series as well as historic carriages. A large field railway system with a 600mm gauge with various locomotives and several model railways are also part of the museum's offering.
