About

The FRÜH Em Veedel is more than a beer hall – it is a living piece of Cologne’s history. Nestled in the heart of the Südstadt at Chlodwigplatz 28, the building dates back to 1886 and has been protected as a heritage monument ever since. After serving as a distillery for generations, it was taken over by the FRÜH Group in 1979 and transformed into the bustling gastropub we know today. Visitors can still see the original brick façade and the remnants of the old distillery on the ground floor – a reminder of the place’s roots in the traditional “Kölsch” brewing culture. Inside, the atmosphere is a blend of old‑world charm and lively, contemporary energy. The dark‑wood bar, long and welcoming, echoes the spirit of a true Kölner Kneipe, while the kitchen serves classic Kölsch‑style dishes such as Halve Hahn, Himmel un Ääd, and Speckpfannkuchen. The menu is a celebration of regional flavors, and the beer is brewed on tap from the FRÜH beer garden’s own recipe. The Em Veedel is also a social hub that regularly hosts private events, family gatherings, and neighborhood celebrations. With a capacity of around 80 seats it offers a cosy yet lively setting for both locals and visitors. Its friendly service, relaxed vibe, and small bottle shop make it a perfect stop for a lunch, a late‑afternoon drink, or an evening in the lively Severinsviertel. Whether you’re a dedicated Kölsch lover or just looking for an authentic taste of Cologne’s pub culture, the FRÜH Em Veedel delivers a memorable experience grounded in history, great food and a welcoming atmosphere.
