Melaten‑Friedhof is Cologne’s largest cemetery and a living museum of the city’s social and cultural history. Spanning over 50,000 graves, the grounds showcase the artistic heritage of countless notable figures—from politicians and artists to everyday citizens—amidst lush tree‑lined paths and varied landscape design. The cemetery is open year‑round, with seasonal hours that extend from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. between April 1 and November 2, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from November 3 to March 31. Guided tours and informational brochures are available on‑site, and visitors are welcome to stroll, reflect or attend memorial events.
