About

The Glyptothek, Munich’s oldest public museum, is dedicated to the finest examples of ancient Greek and Roman marble sculpture. Commissioned by King Ludwig I and designed by Leo von Klenze, the neoclassical building houses a world‑class collection that spans the Archaic to Roman periods. Visitors enjoy generous natural light, vaulted halls reminiscent of Roman baths, and iconic works such as the Drunken Old Woman and the Medusa Rondanini. The museum is currently closed for a staff meeting until 1 p.m. on 9 December 2025; the next opening period is expected after that date. The Glyptothek remains free to the public, with no admission fee during regular visiting hours (see official site for exact times).
