Drogarati Cave
About
Drogarati Cave, one of Greece’s most spectacular limestone caves, lies 120 m above sea level in the Chaliotata area, just 5 km from Sami in Kefalonia. First opened to tourists in 1963, the cave spans 95 m in depth and features a 20‑metre high ceiling, a large amphitheatre‑like chamber, and a highly‑decorated Royal Balcony. Its walls are adorned with a rich variety of speleothems—stalactites, stalagmites, columns, curtains, helictites, and rare straw stalactites—making it a living geological laboratory that continues to evolve. Visitors can also enjoy the cave’s excellent acoustics, which have been used for concerts and cultural events, and explore the interconnected karst network that links nearby caves such as Aggalaki and Saint Theodoroi.
