About

Mount Lycabettus is the highest hill in central Athens, standing at 277 m (908 ft) above sea level. The hill is a beloved tourist destination, offering panoramic views of the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Olympos Theatre, and the sprawling cityscape. Visitors can ascend by foot or by the historic Lycabettus Funicular—an 18th‑century‑style railway that clings to the limestone slope, providing a unique, 3‑minute ride to the summit. Atop the hill sits the 19th‑century Chapel of St. George, a small, charming church that hosts daily masses, as well as a small café and a theatre that hosts concerts and cultural events. The hill is lined with pine trees and lush gardens, making it a perfect spot for leisurely walks, picnics, or simply taking in the sunset over the Aegean Sea.
