There are two grocery stores, one of which is conveniently open on Sundays, and a traditional bakery where you can purchase fresh, local bread and pastries. The village is also home to the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, dedicated to the famous Cretan author, a bar, two inviting tavernas, and a kebab (souvlaki) place that offers delivery service, though it is closed on Sundays. For those interested in history and culture, the village boasts a number of churches, including one that dates back to the Byzantine era, as well as a mystical “fairies” cave and a football pitch, all within walking distance of the villa. Myrtia serves as an excellent base for exploring the many sights and attractions that Crete has to offer. The world-renowned Minoan Palace of Knossos is just 10 kilometers away, while the vibrant city of Heraklion is a mere 15 kilometers from the villa.
