Preveli Beach
About
Preveli Beach, also known as the Limni of Preveli, is one of Crete’s most iconic and unspoiled coastlines. Nestled at the mouth of the Kourtaliotiko Gorge, a 1.5‑km long lake feeds directly into the Mediterranean, creating a unique tidal lagoon that stays snow‑white even in summer. Towering palm forests of the Theophrastus species line the shore, giving the beach a distinctly African ambience, while a dramatic cliff‑top monastery offers sweeping views of the sea and hinterland. Visitors can explore the nearby Preveli Monastery, paddle a pedal boat along the turquoise river, or simply unwind on the pebble‑paved beach, surrounded by exotic flora and crystal‑clear waters. The site remains largely undeveloped, preserving its pristine charm and making it a favourite for families, nature lovers, history enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.
