About

Memento Park is an open‑air museum located in Budapest, Hungary, dedicated to the monumental statues and plaques of the country’s communist era (1949‑1989). The park was established in 1993 after the fall of communism, collecting the statues that were removed from public spaces. It is divided into two main areas: the Statue Park and Witness Square, the latter containing a replica of Stalin’s boots and a modern exhibition hall. Visitors can stroll through six oval sections featuring statues of Lenin, Marx, Engels and other Hungarian communist leaders, while the exhibition hall presents a film about the 1956 Revolution and a life‑size copy of Stalin’s bronze pedestal. Walking the park offers a unique, visual narrative of Hungary’s political past and its transition to democracy.
