The Culture House
About
The Culture House – officially known as the Icelandic National Gallery – is an architectural landmark in the heart of Reykjavík, housing Iceland’s most extensive collection of national art. Spanning some 16,000 works from ancient to contemporary Icelandic artists, the museum offers a comprehensive narrative of the country’s artistic evolution. In addition to classic paintings, sculptures and prints, the Culture House showcases the digital art centre Vasulka‑Stofa, a hub of electronic and interactive art founded in partnership with Steinn and Woody Vasulka. Open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, visitors can explore the main galleries, the striking vasulka‑stofa installation, and rotating special exhibitions that bring new perspectives to Icelandic art. With accessible entrances, wheelchair‑friendly elevators, free admission for children and special rates for students and seniors, the Culture House welcomes art lovers, families, and culture‑enthusiasts alike.
