Rathcroghan Royal Site & Visitor Centre
About
Rathcroghan, located just outside Tulsk in County Roscommon, Ireland, is a sprawling archaeological landscape that spans over six square kilometres and houses more than 240 monuments, including the iconic Rathcroghan Mound, the mystical Oweynagat Cave, the ancient inauguration site Carnfree, and the impressive Mucklaghs earthworks. Steeped in millennia of history, myth and legend—home to the legendary Queen Medb and the epic Táin Bó Cúailnge— the visitor centre offers guided tours, self‑guided materials, workshops, and a café to complement an immersive exploration of Ireland’s cultural heritage. Through its blend of Neolithic, Bronze Age and medieval artefacts, Rathcroghan invites visitors into stories that weave the ancient past with the ancient myths still alive in Irish folklore.
