Stone Circle
About
The Kenmare Stone Circle, nestled just outside the town of Kenmare in County Kerry, Ireland, is a stunning example of prehistoric stonework. This egg‑shaped ring measures 17.4 × 15.8 m (56 × 49 ft) and is composed of 15 large boulders—13 upright and two prostrate at the north. At the heart of the circle lies a remarkable boulder‑burial, capped by a massive stone that is around 2 m long, 1.8 m wide and 0.8 m thick, weighing close to seven tons. Local lore calls the site 'The Shruberries', and it is considered one of the largest stone circles in southwest Ireland. Visitors are treated to the awe‑inspiring sight of the towering capstone and the rare geometric layout, offering a rare glimpse into Neolithic engineering and local copper‑bearing traditions.
