Castello Reale di Govone - World Heritage Site
About
The Royal Castle of Govone (Castello Reale di Govone) stands proudly on the hillside overlooking the Tanaro Valley in the scenic Roero region of Piedmont. With roots tracing back over a millennium, the castle has housed royalty, hosted intellectual luminaries, and served as a cultural hub for the local community. Visitors can marvel at its 18th‑century architecture, ornate interiors—such as the Hall of Honor and the Chinese Rooms—and stroll through meticulously curated gardens featuring a rose arbor and lush boxwood hedges. In addition to its historic significance, the castle offers a modern visitor experience with free audioguides, Wi‑Fi, and an interactive app. The castle opens from March to December every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, offering two daily sessions: 10:00‑12:30 and 15:00‑18:00, with last entry half an hour before closing. During the festive season, a special exhibition—The Magical Christmas Country—runs from mid‑November to mid‑December, drawing visitors into a winter wonderland that enhances the castle’s cultural appeal. Admission is €7 for adults, €5 for reduced categories (students, seniors, teachers), and free for children under 14 and membership holders. Groups of 15 or more require advance booking, while reservations for typical visitors are optional but recommended to secure a preferred time slot.
