The Ghiacciaia is located in a medieval burg: Amagno. In the past,it was used to preserve the foodstuffs when there were no refrigerators. The ice and snow, accumulated inside the hole during the winter, kept cool temperature until the next winter. Perhaps, this ancient icebox was built in the same time of the noble building in which it is located or may have been added at a later time.
