Borgo San Pietro Aquaeortus is a medieval mastery (12th century) which has lately become a rural village. In the 60th of the 20th century it was abandoned by its inhabitants and up to 2000, when the reconstruction works started, it was almost completely destroyed. In 2009 was finished its reconstruction. The restoration is exemplary: buildings were all dismantled stone by stone, consolidated and reconstructed with the original materials. The recovery of the medieval church, the remake of the square in front of the restoration of the arches, columns, roofs and bell tower testify the desire to recreate here a small community under the sign of the water: the same water that St Peter, while he was travelling to Rome, according to the legend, made gush in these woods, to baptize the inhabitants of the place, that since then is called Aquaeortus. Borgo San Pietro Aquaeortus is a place of spirituality and simplicity. Life here flows at a slower pace, favouring the cycle of the seasons.
