Villa Olmo
About
Villa Olmo is a stunning neoclassical masterpiece perched on the western edge of Lake Como, overlooking the turquoise waters. Commissioned in 1782 by Marquis Innocenzo Odescalchi, the villa was designed by the celebrated Milanese architect Simone Cantoni. The elegant façade and harmonious proportions reflect the aesthetic ideals of the period, while the interior showcases a blend of artistic styles and exquisite decoration. The villa’s grand ballroom, adorned with frescoes by Domenico Pozzi, remains a highlight, and the lower floor houses a 92‑seat theatre with a painted ceiling that draws visitors back to the late‑19th‑century splendor of the Visconti de Modrone. Courtyard gardens, once home to a centuries‑old elm, extend across terraced lawns filled with statues and a central fountain, offering sweeping views of the lake and the surrounding Alpine foothills. Today, Villa Olmo serves as a cultural venue that hosts exhibitions, concerts and public tours, inviting the public to experience a living archive of both architectural and artistic heritage.
