Miniera Del Taglione
About
The Taglione Mine, with a visitable extension of about 500 metres, is evidence of the gold mining activity that developed between the beginning of the eighteenth century and the mid-twentieth century in the Antrona Valley. After decades of abandonment, the mine was made safe by the Ossola Protected Areas Management Body as part of the Interreg Italy-Switzerland "Mineralp" project, conducted in cooperation between partners from a large territory that includes Valle d' Aosta, Piedmont and Switzerland (Cantons of Valais and Ticino): it allowed the recovery of some abandoned mining sites for tourism purposes and the valorisation of the mining heritage of the Western Alps. The Taglione Mine is one of the numerous tunnels present in the mining area of the Antrona Valley, but in the valley it's the only one authorized for visits and tourist use. In general, in fact, it is possible to ONLY visit the mines open to tourist visits, always and only accompanied by expert and trained Guides.
